Jordan Malm

Clinical Director and Counsellor

B.Eng, Dip. PSR, M.Ed., RCC

My therapeutic approach stems from a strong clinical foundation in Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) which promotes higher functioning, community integration, recovery and enhanced quality of life for clients living with mental health and substance use concerns. My style can best be described as integrative and adaptive; drawing from several evidence-based treatment modalities and counselling interventions tailored to meet the specific needs of the client. Most often I collaborate with clients using a strength-based, Humanistic perspective and adapt my training and professional experience utilizing Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Narrative Therapy concepts and techniques. Other therapeutic modalities incorporated into my practice include:

•  Motivational Interviewing

•  Solution-Focused Therapy

•  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

•  Existential Therapy

•  Emotionally Focused Therapy

•  Mindfulness / Visual Guidance

Over 15 years ago I switched careers from Engineering to Mental Health and since then I have accumulated a broad range of experience helping individuals and families struggling with mental health and addiction issues to reclaim, maintain and improve their overall well-being. I have worked and volunteered in the mental health community for agencies such as MPA Society, Coast Mental Health, BC Crisis Centre, and the Vancouver General Hospital, as well as clinical settings such as VCH Eating Disorders, Vancouver Detox, and Venture often alongside mental health teams which may include psychiatrists, addiction and vocational counsellors, nurses and social workers. I have also completed research studies on hope and addictions at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Prior to founding MALM Counselling, I provided therapy as an independent contractor with Manifest Wellness focusing on mostly men's mental and physical health, relationships, and career success. I have also provided clinical counselling and assessments in private and public settings to youth, adults, couples and families collaborating closely with the Ministry of Social Development (MSDS) and agencies such as Harbourside Family Counseling Centre. I completed my Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology from UBC and two post-baccalaureate diplomas in Psychosocial Rehabilitation and one in Guidance Studies. I am currently the Clinical Director and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counselling (BCACC) at MALM Counselling.

Conlan Mansfield

Certified Canadian Counsellor

My approach to counselling is built on collaboration, warmth, and creativity. I strive to create a space in which you can freely share your heart and mind and we can work together in service of your unique goals. I practice primarily from an existential and solution-focused perspective which means that I like to focus on enhancing self-awareness, strengthening personal values, and taking actionable steps towards a life you find meaningful and authentic.

Ultimately, I am a client-centered counsellor at heart, emphasizing a non-judgmental atmosphere and unconditional positive regard for whatever you choose to share during our sessions. Outside of counselling, I am an avid gardener, and a martial arts teacher, and I enjoy reading and writing about philosophy and psychology.

Other therapeutic modalities incorporated into my practice include:

•  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

•  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

•  Collaborative Therapy

•   Trauma-Informed Approaches

Honoring the needs of my clients and creating positive therapeutic outcomes is of the utmost importance to me and MALM Counselling. Throughout my professional journey, I have gained invaluable experience in providing counselling to a wide range of clientele. My background includes work on interdisciplinary mental health teams, in non-profit mental health, in Indigenous organizations, and in grassroots community work.

Over the last several years, I have had the privilege of working with men suffering from comorbid complex trauma and substance use challenges, and I take pride in helping men of all backgrounds heal their wounds and take steps towards a life worth living. While working with men in a therapeutic context is a particular passion of mine, I delight in serving community members from all walks of life to build effective communication, heal trauma, and enhance relationship intimacy. I am especially skilled in helping clients who seek a sense of purpose, meaning, and their "next step" in life.

Outside of counselling, I research and write extensively on the philosophy of science and counselling psychology, and I run several trauma-informed martial arts programs. I am an avid weightlifter, a diligent horticulturist, a passionate writer, and a tireless advocate for personal and community empowerment. My educational background includes a Masters of Counselling Psychology (MC), a Bachelors of Art and Sciences (BA) with a Major in Indigenous Studies, and a wide range of certificates in psychotherapy, fitness, risk assessment, and private security. I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
